Boston Cocktails, Convos & Community
On a wet and windy Tuesday night in November an intimate group of investors, executives, marketers and communicators sampled classic cocktails at an elegant, old-school speakeasy on Beacon Street in Boston. Despite the rain, more than 40 marketing and communications professionals grabbed their umbrellas and rain boots and came out to spend few hours to chat and reflect on the ‘state of the state’ of two key industries that drive the economy of the Commonwealth, healthcare and high technology.
As I made my way around the room I noticed two themes steering many of the lively and animated discussions that were taking place. First, the impact of a Donald Trump Administration on the entire eco-system of healthcare from insurance plans, payers to hospitals. A model similar to ‘Obamacare’ was created in Massachusetts when Mitt Romney was the Governor in 2006. Second, there was a lot of talk about the different ways that emerging technology, especially mobile, IoT and big data, is converging with the healthcare industry and the impact that it was having on every aspect of our lives. It’s this trend, the disruptive (and positive) intersection of technology and healthcare that puts Boston in a uniquely crucial role in making this promising start a global reality.
If there’s a city to do it – it’ll be Boston with our vibrant start-up and innovation community, world-renowned physicians and hospitals, and prestigious colleges and universities. And WE Communications is committed to telling this evolving narrative far and wide so the city continues its leadership position in tech as well as healthcare, including biotech, medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
